Oak House.

Setup

A single-family residence in Coconut Grove by KODA, designed around the century-old oaks that define its site. The house bends its roofline and its rooms around the trees; nothing on the site was asked to move.

oaki produced the renderings between 2024 and 2026.

Tension

An unbuilt house has no photography. When it enters an award cycle, the images are the building: the jury never visits a site, it visits a set of frames. Every claim the design makes about the oaks had to be legible in the pictures, or it would not exist for the jury at all.

Approach

The trees lead every frame. The facade reads through the canopy, the interiors look back out to it, and the closing vertical frame puts house and oak in one column. The light is one Miami afternoon throughout, so five images read as one visit.

Outcome
