The developer sent a massing. Three boxes on a slope, a road, the line of a lift, and a brief to make them a hotel. No plans, no elevations. A handful of precedents and the name of the brand the building would carry.
We drew the architecture inside the images. The volumes broken and stepped, the roofs thrown out over the arrivals, the base pulled back where the public rooms meet the snow. Each round came back with the architect's sketches on top, and the buildings climbed the hill with the grade until the ground floor sat right at every door.
The mountain around the hotel is the real terrain, the houses on the ridge sit where they stand, so the site holds true from the ski beach to the road below. Three views: the arrival in falling snow, the ski beach, and the road back up in summer.
“The images looked beautiful, and we're very happy with the final result.”
